2010 Taxes are Due Friday, April 15, 2011 for Individuals
For many taxpayers this can be a very stressful and confusing time. However, unless this is your first year of having reportable income, chances are you have been through the tax return process before. You know there are certain items you will need to process your return. The following are some of the items you may need:
* W-2 Forms (which report your wages, taxes and deductions from income) * 1099 Forms (report other income whether from self employment, retirement distributions, etc.) * 1098 Forms (from your mortgage lender showing interest paid and often property taxes paid) * Letters and other required documentation for charitable contributions * List of itemized deductions accompanied with supporting documentation * Record of estimated tax payments made * Tax documents from your broker for your investments
The list goes on and on. As a rule of thumb, it is a good idea to collect all of your tax documents throughout the year. After the end of the year, you will receive envelopes marked "Important Tax Document." Keep them all together in an envelope marked 2008 Taxes. When you are ready to sit down with your tax professional, you will already have everything in one place.
